Job Introduction
WalesOnline are looking for someone to lead their newsroom to achieve digital and customer growth and engagement targets. The key purpose of the role is to own and lead all aspects of editorial activity in our Wales business, driving towards digital audience goals.Reporting to Head of Live Brands and to have a close working relationship with marketplace publisher.

This role will be flexible and you will be working from home and in our brand new hub in Cardiff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead WalesOnline newsroom to achieve digital audience and customer growth and engagement targets
  • Owns overall audience delivery target across all brands within the region
  • Ensure that resources at all levels in our newsrooms are clearly focused and managed as effectively as possible to deliver their digital targets
  • Create an environment that encourages new ideas for digital content that will drive audience growth and engagement
  • Responsible for developing and delivering customer strategy
    Ensure that enhanced planning processes are thoroughly embedded in the newsroom and enable us to drive audience growth and commercial performance
  • Ensure effective use of social media tools by newsroom staff
  • Act as editor and brand champion of our news brands
  • Play an ambassadorial role for your region’s brands and the business as a whole, in person and via social media
  • Supports executive management in the delivery of overall strategy, and work alongside other ACDs to guide strategy across Live network
  • Provide support and guidance for editors and senior editorial managers within the region to achieve business goals.
  • Keep abreast of key digital publishing developments
  • Taking accountability for the fair and consistent application of all our people policies, procedures and processes.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Long-standing experience as a senior newsroom manager
    Proven leader
  • Experience as a manager
  • Strong news sense
  • NCTJ qualified or equivalent
  • Proven strong digital publishing skills
  • Communication, including written, face-to-face, presentation skills and the ability to cascade consistent messages for maximum impact.
