Liverpool has a ‘once-in-a-generation’ opportunity to significantly improve healthcare for people in the city region and beyond, following the creation of the Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The Trust, one of the largest in the UK, was created on 1 October 2019 by a clinically-led merger of Aintree University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust. The newly formed Trust is responsible for managing services at Aintree University Hospital, Broadgreen Hospital, Liverpool Dental Hospital and the Royal Liverpool University Hospital.

Bringing together a combined workforce of over 12,000 staff, the Trust is the largest NHS employer in Merseyside and Cheshire. As well as providing general hospital services to local residents, the Trust provides a range of highly specialist services to more than two million people in the North West and beyond.

This merger has been driven by clinicians, who for a long time have recognised that a union of the Trusts will enable significant changes that will transform the way healthcare is delivered and improve outcomes for patients. The aim is to address the current levels of variation and fragmentation that exists between acute hospital services in Liverpool and to ensure that all services are of the highest quality. This will be delivered by single, city-wide clinical teams, which will also help us to attract and retain the best staff.

The Trust will also seek to influence the wider determinants of health by closer involvement in employment, housing and education and to be part of a first class research and scientific development partnership with Higher Education and business enterprise across the city and beyond.

As an Anchor organisation, at the heart of the resurgence and development of the city, you will be working in a dynamic, exhilarating, complex and fulfilling environment.

We are currently in the middle of a major construction project for our new city centre hospital at the heart of the knowledge quarter, alongside other significant and exciting enhancements to the rest of our estate. We operate the Major Trauma centre for the region and operate some of the best and most acknowledged clinical teams and facilities anywhere in the country, and are developing a research facility with unlimited ambition.

Whilst being a large national and international player within a vibrant, energetic city, our organisation retains a family feel with a ‘Can Do’ approach and a supportive environment for all our wonderful staff as seen within our new Trust Values, of being Caring, Fair and Innovative.

The ambitious strategic plan for the Trust will take place over the next few years and is underpinned with our commitment to technology, data and IT. We will build on the skills and talents of our fantastic workforce to spread best practice, deliver innovation and provide sustainable services for patients. This is a great time to join our fantastic organisation; to shape a robust and long-term digital strategy, which builds upon our Global Digital Exemplar status and is developing partnerships with local and international exemplars in this field. We aim to develop a truly world class Informatics division, focusing on staff with ambition and drive to be the leaders in a continuous improvement environment. We will become the very best place for staff to train and work in a brilliant, dedicated and passionate team.

This is such an exciting opportunity within the Trust for a high-performing, values-driven, Chief Information Officer. The successful candidate will provide senior leadership that will deliver some of the most significant service changes local health services are likely to see and build a lasting digital legacy.
