Islamic Relief is an international non-governmental organisation (INGO) founded in the UK in 1984 by a group of medical doctors and activists. Established in response to the widespread famine in Africa, Islamic Relief has grown to become one of the world’s largest Muslim INGOs with a presence in over 40 countries worldwide.

By responding to disasters, rebuilding lives and preparing people in case disaster strikes, we save lives before they are lost. PURPOSE OF DIVISION (IRUK)
Islamic Relief UK (IRUK) is a Strategic Business Unit (SBU) that is part of Islamic Relief Worldwide. IRUK’s focus is strengthening effective funding, mobilising for change through advocacy and awareness-raising, and strengthening programme development and delivery. IRUK works with various partners and institutions, from governments, non-governmental organisations and local authorities to grassroots communities.
PURPOSE OF DEPARTMENT (Marketing):
The Marketing and Creative Department will liaise with key stakeholders, to ensure that Marketing and Creative Services form an integrated part of Islamic Relief UK’s campaigns and activities which help transform the organisations influence and impact.
The department seeks to raise awareness and understanding of IRUK and its brand, drive donations, grow influence, and bring key audiences closer to our purpose.
To devise and implement IRUK’s digital marketing strategy, as an integral part of IRUK’s fundraising, branding and campaigning projects.
KEY WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
Close working relationship with the Social Media Manager in website management
Member of the Campaigns Steering Group, working closely with the Project Manager for Campaigns in driving the digital engagement of IRUK’s campaigns
Manage relationships with identified external media and digital organisations, such as Google, Adroll, Flashtalking and others.
SCOPE AND AUTHORITY
The job holder will work closely with key stakeholders externally – such as media companies, digital agencies and service providers – and internally, including the Head of Marketing and Creative, the Project Manager for Campaigns, and the Head of Fundraising.
Scope of the Role:
Reporting to the Head of Marketing and Creative, the Digital Marketing Manager is responsible for helping develop and then implementing IRUK’s digital marketing strategy, operational plans, digital campaign activities and website management. The role line manages a Digital Marketing Specialist and also has delegated responsibility for day-to-day management of digital marketing operations and the digital marketing budget.

Responsible for day-to-day relationship with external agencies
The job holder is accountable for fulfilling their roles and responsibilities in line with Islamic values and principles of fairness, humanity, honesty, respect and fair treatment of their colleagues and staff.
1. Online marketing
Develop and implement digital marketing strategy for IRUK
Responsible for improving the usability, design, user journey and conversion of IRUKs website, in conjunction with IRUKs web development agency
Drive and project manage IRUKs website development project
A/B testing of adverts and landing pages
Manage and develop the Google Grants account
Plan and implement integrated Search, Display and Video campaigns on platforms, including Google and YouTube
Devise digital media plans for IRUKs campaigns, as per the yearly campaign plan
Analyse and report from Google Analytics and other relevant tools to optimise campaigns
Identify and implement new media formats like rich media ads and dynamic media to create brand awareness
Horizon scanning for new digital fundraising initiatives, including social fundraising/crowd fundraising
Advise, consult and provide services related to the design and development of online creative
Give briefs and supervise assignments involving digital agencies
Research and identify third party ad serving platforms and opportunities in the sector
Interact and collaborate with team members to align digital media with other marketing, communications and fundraising activities
Build and maintain a content distribution network
Conduct competitive analysis to enhance organic ranking and traffic generated by targeted keywords
Manage and oversee the work of the Digital Marketing Officer in support of all of the above
Devise and implement yearly Email Marketing plans
2. Budget Management
Responsible for managing the budget for online marketing
Maintain and control the budget and oversee payments to vendors
3. Manage, motivate and develop the digital marketing team
Line manage the Digital Marketing Specialist – providing direction on priorities, reviewing performance objectives and giving regular one-to-one supervision and support
Help more junior members of the team to develop their knowledge, skills and capability in campaign-based digital marketing
Delegate work to make sure that tasks and projects are delivered to agreed timings
Champion the work of the Marketing and Creative team across the organisation
Participate in staff recruitment where appropriate, and ensure induction programmes are in place
Lead by positive example to create a motivational working environment which inspires the team
4. Cross-team working
Work with key staff both in Digital, Marketing and other teams to ensure a seamless customer journey from off-site channels to our owned products
Work with the Marketing and Communications team(s) to deliver integrated campaigns
Work with the PM Campaigns to ensure IRUKs key campaigns are reflected in our digital channels
Work with the Supporter Services team and Data Innovation Analyst to understand and use our data
Work with the Fundraising team to capture and convert supporters through digital channels
Develop and maintain effective working relationships with key stakeholders across Islamic Relief and be an active member of departmental and cross-departmental project teams
5. Support and management of Digital Projects
Manage content related digital projects as required
Be the digital content contact for digital development agencies
Provide digital marketing expertise on cross organisational projects as required
Take direction on priorities from line manager, which may vary from time to time
Keep professional knowledge and expertise up to date
Adhere to organisational policies including equal opportunities and code of conduct
Carry out any other task(s) as deemed appropriate by the line manager in improving the efficiency and performance of Islamic Relief
It is essential that the post holder shows a good understanding and sympathy with the Islamic values and principles as well as commitment to Islamic Relief’s vision and mission.
Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications
Graduate in a Business or Marketing discipline, or equivalent work experience
Strong understanding of the major technology-driven changes and trends affecting the online media and advertising industries
Sound knowledge of the digital media buying ecosystem (CPC, CPA, CPM, ROI, LTV)
Strong understanding and experience of performance advertising (Search, Display and Video)
Good understanding of KPIS and digital metrics
Have demonstrable understanding of Email Marketing, SEO, CMS & CRM
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work with discretion and professionalism, whilst demonstrating the ability to decide and deliver on campaigns and projects
Solution focused in the face of challenges
Superb attention to detail
Ability to negotiate agreement on expectations and outcomes in an extremely busy environment with changing priorities
Ability to work well with both technical colleagues and those who are less confident with technical details
Proven experience of implementing direct or digital marketing/fundraising campaigns
Experience of running digital marketing campaigns geared towards the British Muslim community
Hands-on experience on using tools like Google AdWords Editor, Google Analytics, Communicator etc.
Experience of relationship and stakeholder management
Negotiating and influencing, both internally and externally
Experience of managing significant marketing budgets and delivering a positive ROI
Understanding of charity sector marketing
Be able to give presentation at board level
Experience of line and performance management of staff
Experience of developing and managing annual plans and budgets
