International Manufacturer based in Bedfordshire seeks an experienced Manufacturing Engineering Manager.

About the role:

To provide service excellence to our manufacturing sites through effective leadership of the manufacturing engineering team. Delivering technical and project management expertise to support and continuously improve the manufacturing facilities and capabilities to meet customer demand.

Duties may include:

  • Ownership of BMS processes related to the role of Manufacturing Engineering Manager.
  • Identification and assessment of risks.
  • Ownership of the Permit to Work system.
  • Implementation of systems and processes to safely control activities of both internal staff and external contractors.
  • Training and re-training to ensure all engineering and maintenance staff are competent to work safely.
  • Service delivery: ensuring timely & efficient service is provided to all manufacturing units to ensure the safety of all users whilst maximizing production output and minimizing wastage.
  • Accountable for the management of the maintenance department, ensuring that all production equipment and ancillary services are maintained to a safe and reliable standard.
  • Work with the Maintenance Team Leader to manage and deliver the maintenance planning system for all manufacturing functions.
  • Work with the manufacturing teams, maintenance team, product managers and the engineering team to identify opportunities for improvement projects based upon:
  • Investigation of manufacturing processes at other group factories in order to glean information relating to processes and technology.
  • Work with the Engineering Manager and the planning team to ensure availability to meet customer demand.
  • Act as the key link between the Product Development team and the manufacturing teams.
  • Ensure manufacturing capabilities meet future demand in terms of process capability for new products availability.
  • Identify manufacturing technology which can offer new opportunities to the Product Development Team to influence and enhance product design.
  • Support the activities of the Quality Assurance function through improved use of technology and engineering solutions to measure and assess CTQ product features.
  • Set a high standard of housekeeping in all areas of responsibility, ensure these standards are maintained
  • Support the activities of the Head of Manufacturing, Manufacturing Managers and the Product Development team for capex projects for new equipment and new manufacturing methods.
  • Budget management.
  • To engender a culture of continuous improvement in terms of health and safety, performance metrics, process improvements and waste reduction.
  • To inform the Head of Manufacturing of all manufacturing engineering and process related issues.
  • Liaise with group engineering staff and other group factory managers as and when required in relation to improvement projects.
  • Provision of site and building plans to the Facilities Manager.
  • Source ‘first off’ spare parts, liaising with suppliers with regard to lead times and costs.
  • Managing the spare part inventory and sourcing new parts as required.
  • Risk assessment and re-assessment of ongoing and new manufacturing activities and processes.
  • Managing the activities of on-site contractors in relation to manufacturing engineering projects.
  • Owner of Business Management System (BMS) processes relating to the engineering functions. Ensuring timely reviews and adherence to processes, procedures and audits.
  • Owner of risk assessments relating to areas of responsibility. Ensuring timely reviews and adherence to RA and method statements.
  • Liaise and cooperate with the Facilities Manager regarding contractors to site.
  • Reporting on key metrics and departmental objectives

Skills and experience:

  • Knowledge of manufacturing and maintenance processes including management of production/maintenance engineering.
  • Knowledge and appreciation of Lean manufacturing concepts.
  • An understanding and knowledge of Health and Safety procedures and current legislation.
  • Technical degree qualified (mechanical / production / industrial engineering)
  • Experience in a similar role.
  • Full UK driving license.
  • Self-motivated and able to work unsupervised with a flexible approach to work and hours…… click apply for full job details
