British Gypsum, part of the Saint-Gobain group is the UKs leading manufacturer of interior lining systems with over 100 years’ experience in plaster, plasterboard and ceiling solutions, we already have a multitude of high-performance products and systems that can be seen around you in daily life.

We are best known as a manufacturing business, but have a sizeable self-contained mining infrastructure that supplies raw material to all our sites. Operating 5 from mines in the UK both above and below ground we extract Gypsum rock deposits that are then processed on site and used in our products, it is the backbone of our business.

An exciting opportunity for a highly strategic, business minded mining professional with proven experience and success in a senior operational role has arisen. This role will suit someone with very strong business foresight who is able to focus on the long term plan as their top priority but also use the team and infrastructure below them to achieve day to day results.

As the Mineral Resources Director the key elements of the role include:

Operational safety of our mines and compliance to health, safety and environmental activity
Both short and long term planning, understanding how short term plans can have a big impact for the future
Manage our Gypsum reserves and plan for the lifetime of our mines, includes ensuring that we have the geological resources available.
Explore new sources of gypsum and acquire land to meet the needs of the long term development plan
Optimisation of the overall cost to the organisation, understanding the best way to utilise our product and reserves
Ensure that our statutory obligations around mining are maintained and developed.
Have foresight and plan the development of our existing workforce ensuring succession plans are in place
Reporting to the Operations Director and holding close relationships with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders you must be able to navigate a complex businessWhat kind of person are we looking for?

Have a passion for health & safety and experience in high level management in this area
Great leadership abilities are important in this role as we continually push to develop our people, culture and performance
Demonstrable high performance in a senior management role including operational management preferably within a mining or quarrying environment however we are open to other sectors for the right individual
A degree in Mining or Minerals Engineering or a similar engineering competency
You must have been in a role that requires long term business planning and demonstrable success
Strong communication skills, the ability to interact at all levels whilst keeping a rational business minded approach to decision makingFlexible packages designed for you!
