Job Description
Reader Services Librarian Stirling Council Library Headquarters Hours: 21 per week Salary Grade: G10 Permanent Stirling Council Libraries have a track record of outreach and innovation. Reading is the core service we offer and we are looking for a dynamic and creative individual to work with the existing part-time postholder to support and develop services to readers of all ages. The post leads on reader development, with responsibility for stock management and selection and involvement in local and national initiatives to encourage reading and literacy. The Reader Services Librarian leads the Outreach team who deliver the Housebound service with the assistance of volunteers, and the Young People’s Services team who co-ordinate library services for children including Bookbug, collections for playgroups and the Every Child A Library Member initiative. In addition the postholders support a busy calendar of events. This includes working with others to organise Off the Page adult book festival, Smallprint book festival for children and Book Week Scotland. Our inclusive approach is demonstrated with successful projects such as Reading Friends and extensive partnership work. The postholder also has responsibility for delivering a library service to Cornton Vale prison. This is an exciting time to join Stirling libraries. After an active Lockdown with an emphasis on our excellent digital resources we are now in the process of re-opening libraries. Stirling Council Administration are committed to supporting libraries as 21st Century digitally competent community hubs. We aim to develop the range of services we offer and extend our engagement with readers. This post is key to achieving that aim. The Reader Services Librarian is a member of the Libraries Management Team with direct line management responsibility for a number of libraries. We are looking for a qualified librarian with good knowledge of current publishing for adults and young people. The postholder should have experience of delivering reader development programmes and experience in organising events is desirable. We aim to grow our audience in communities and encourage participation from all age groups. You will support staff in libraries hosting activities and work with partnership with other organisations. You should have experience in a management role, be well-organised and able to work effectively within a busy team. You should have excellent interpersonal and communication skills including knowledge and experience of social media and blogging. Based at our Library HQ, a flexible approach to the working week, which can include evening and weekend working, is essential.
