About the role
The role requires a strategic thinker – an ability to look upstream towards early concept development as well as downstream into industrialisation in readiness for the start of production.
Working with and reporting to the Global Head of Product Systems Engineering, the Senior Systems Engineering Manager will strive to transform the ways of working across Research Design & Development (RDD) through true Systems Engineering, while leveraging opportunities to pioneer and progress product platforming.
You will lead a team of product systems engineers who:
Work at the core of our early-stage product development teams using systems engineering tools and methods to bring clarity from ambiguity.
Translate our product vision into clear and concise requirements – user, product, and business.
Use MBSE methods to develop product architectures. Decomposing the problem into digestible functional, physical, and behavioural chunks.
Build and coordinate system wide simulations to help us to balance requirements early.
Work collaboratively with all our engineering teams to clarify work packages, balance technical trade-offs, and resolve engineering issues.
In addition to project responsibility, you will play a critical role in developing, embedding, and recruiting to our systems engineering capability more widely.
Your responsibilities will include:
Attracting and developing a world class team of systems engineers.
Owning and developing business wide capability for systems engineering including ownership of our processes for product architecture and product platforming.
Owning and delivering on our roadmap towards full integration of model-based systems engineering – including tool selection and customisation, methods development, and training.
Helping us pivot our focus from products to product platforms to maximise reuse of engineering effort spanning all technical disciplines.
Providing targeted coaching, mentoring and consultancy to teams and individuals within Systems Engineering and more widely across RDD to enhance their use of systems engineering or resolve specific technical challenges.
Responsible – for the leadership, direction, budget, and resourcing of a group of experienced systems engineers working at the earliest stages of our new product developments in all Dyson product categories.
Credible – able to lead technical discussions with VPs and at C-level
Confident – to operate effectively on ambiguous early-stage projects.

Ideally, you will possess:
Experience of leading and developing small to medium sized teams with the ambition and potential to reach Global Head of Department & beyond
Practical, relevant experience in a new product development and or industrialisation environment performing similar roles.
Ability to communicate effectively at all levels from indirect reports to board level with confidence, accuracy, clarity, and appropriate levels of detail.
Expertise in the requirements engineering and system architecture.
Hands on experience with simulation and systems analysis using tools such as SimScape/Simulink and MATLAB.
A solid grasp of MBSE including experience building SysML models using tools like Sparx EA.
A good engineering degree (or equivalent, including experience) in a related discipline.
