Statutory Accountant

Overview

Element has an opportunity for a Newly Qualified or Part Qualified Accountant to join our growing team based in Edinburgh. This is a great moment to join one of the fastest growing companies in the Testing, Inspection and Certification sector located in our Global Business Services function in Edinburgh.

The is a contract role for an initial 12 months, one that will offer an excellent entry into our global business.

Responsibilities

* Provide high quality support to the Statutory Financial Accounting Manager and Group Tax team as required

* Preparation of the Group’s subsidiary statutory accounts for both Trading and Holding companies (as well as Dormant companies) in preparation for Audit and filing

* Preparation of extended trial balances from source systems

* Creation of detailed working files from which statutory accounts will be directly prepared

* Support of internal / external audit processes & ensuring an effective control environment

* A good understanding of VAT and the preparation of VAT returns is beneficial

* Support work for all corporation tax computations

* Very strong focus on processes and procedures and the ability to follow and document these

* Involvement in new group systems testing and implementation

Skills / Qualifications

As a Statutory Accountant you will need to have:

* Professional qualification within accounting, CA / ACCA / CIMA (part-qualified will also be considered depending upon experience)

* Experience of working in a similar position within statutory accounts is essential

* Able to apply a range of IFRS accounting standards is essential

* Experience of improving processes and procedures in a dynamic environment

To be successful an individual should have the following:

* Teamwork mentality and effective communication

* Be able to work on own initiative and be proactive

* Ability to challenge and question accounting treatments

* Attention to detail and be data driven eg: able to evidence dealing with complex transactions
